On October 15-16, 2014, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr. V. Chechelashvili, participated in the international conference “Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway link – new opportunities in the development of the Silk Road corridor”, which was under the patronage of the government of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Within the framework of the conference, the Secretary General made a report about GUAM’s current activity within the field of transport, improvement of infrastructure in the GUAM transport corridor, and the implementation of the GUAM transport corridor development concept.
The outcomes of the meeting were reflected in the Joint Declaration.
On October 15, 2014, the Secretary General met with Mr. Elmar Mamedyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Republic of Azerbaijan. During the meeting, they discussed a range of issues including inter-parliamentary cooperation within GUAM, preparations for the next meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of GUAM, and issues regarding cooperation with foreign partners, in particular with the USA and Japan.
