On 18-19 June 2009, in Vilnius the round-table meeting was held between the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM and the Baltic Parliamentary Assemblies, on the subject of: “Security in changing geopolitical situation and new security concept”.

At the meeting the GUAM PA delegation was headed by Mr.Vano Khukhunaishvili, the Head of the Georgian Parliamentary Committee for Regional Policy, Self-governance and High mountain regions, the head of the Georgian delegation to the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly. The Baltic Parliamentary Assembly delegation was headed by Mr. Mantas Adomenas, the President of the Baltic Parliamentary Assembly.

After two-days meetings and discussions the Declaration on Cooperation between the Baltic and the GUAM Parliamentary Assemblies was signed and also, the Presidium of the Baltic Parliamentary Assembly made a special Statement on situation in Georgia, in which the full support of the sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of its internationally recognized borders were underlined; the militarization of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region was condemned and expressed concern over the growing instability in the Caucasus, that creates a serious threat to the security and the long-term instability not only for this region.
