On February 2, 2016, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Ambassador Mr. Altai Efendiev, was received by the Head of the Delegation of European Union to Ukraine, Ambassador Mr. Jan Tombiński.

An open and constructive spirit permeated the meeting, with the Parties sharing information on the current status and prospective fields of cooperation within the GUAM framework. They underscored the need for stepping up cooperation to implement the Development Concept for the GUAM Transport Corridor, the Agreement on the establishment of a free trade zone, and also other GUAM projects and initiatives.

They noted the importance of GUAM’s close interaction with all its partners within the GUAM+ framework and also with interested international organisations and other important operators with strategic and long-term interests in the region.

The Parties agreed that opportunities, in the context of geopolitical changes and new initiatives in the Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions, require an adequate response and close interaction between all stakeholders in the region in order to promote economic development in the region, and also to promote stability through solutions to existing conflicts.

The Parties agreed to continue close cooperation.
