On July 1, 2008 in Batumi, Georgia, a regular GUAM-USA meeting was held within the framework of the third Summit of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM.
The sides highly assessed the level and scope of cooperation achieved and agreed to deepen and expand it further. The sides noted with appreciation the consistent and sustainable character of GUAM-US dialogue.
Both sides expressed their conviction that the earliest resolution of the protracted conflicts in the GUAM area based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova and the inviolability of their internationally recognized borders, as well as other basic principles of international law, will considerably strengthen international peace, security and stability and pave the way for lasting and full-scale regional cooperation.
The sides discussed ongoing partnership within GUAM-US Framework Program and agreed to implement the new projects in the spheres of border and law-enforcement cooperation.
GUAM reiterated its appreciation for the US Government technical assistance provided for the GUAM Secretariat.
GUAM, based on its increased capacity for cooperation, will continue to generate new GUAM programs and projects. The US agreed to consider providing technical assistance for their implementation.
The sides agreed to have the next GUAM-US meeting during the general debates of the 63rd Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.
