On July 3, 2014, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr. Valeri Chechelashvili, participated in the international expert roundtable “Current state of Ukrainian-Turkish Relations: Challenges and Opportunities”, which was organised with support from the NSDC Office, the Embassy of Turkey in Ukraine, and also the GUAM Secretariat.

The Secretary General addressed participants with a report, in which he stressed the importance of dialogue between Ukraine and Turkey, the significance of which is beyond the scope of bilateral relations and seriously influences the climate of cooperation in the region, especially in the context of the latest events in Ukraine. He also expressed hope for the further strengthening of relations between the two countries, as well as hope that all states in the region comply with the spirit, rules and principles of international law.

The Secretary General further emphasised the importance of dialogue between political scientists and diplomats and wished success to the roundtable participants.
