On April 16-17, 2013, the GUAM Secretariat hosted the 1st Meeting of the Working Group on Culture and Tourism, which involved representatives from the relevant ministries and institutions of GUAM member states, tourism agencies and tourism operators, as well as the GUAM Secretariat.
Participants in the meeting heard presentations by member states as to the latest achievements in the field of culture and tourism in their countries. They discussed issues with respect to setting up mechanisms for exchanging information and statistical data, heard about the results of the GUAM-Japan joint tourism product, and also considered issues related to the development of a new project in the field of culture and tourism within the GUAM+ format. The Parties pointed to growth in the number of Japanese tourists visiting GUAM member states since the time that the above-mentioned project began to be implemented.
The participants adopted a Working Plan of the Working Group on Culture and Tourism for 2013-2014.
The participants also agreed to hold the 2nd meeting of the Working Group on Culture and Tourism on the eve of the 2nd Kyiv International Tourism Forum (to be held on October 11-12, 2013, Kyiv) at the GUAM Secretariat.
