On April 12-13, 2013, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv hosted the 27th Meeting of the GUAM Council of National Coordinators (CNC). This event involved the following officials: Mr. E. Agayev, Director of the External Planning and Strategic Research Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Mr. D. Djalagania, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and GUAM National Coordinator from Georgia, who chaired the meeting; Mr. I. Stavila, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine; Mr. V. Mayko, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and GUAM National Coordinator from Ukraine; and Mr. V. Chechelashvili, Secretary General of GUAM.
During the meeting, the CNC considered issues of political interaction and cooperation within the GUAM+ format inter alia promotion of the draft UN resolution “Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development”, as well as considering the prospects for GUAM-USA and GUAM Japan cooperation, and inter-parliamentary cooperation between GUAM member states.
The CNC also discussed issues related to field cooperation within the GUAM and GUAM+ formats, including the process for realising a project jointly with UNODC in combating money laundering, a joint project on legal statistics, cooperation in emergency prevention and response, and cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, energy, transport and agriculture.
The CNC expressed gratitude to Ukraine for its readiness to coordinate the Working Group on Emergencies in 2013-2014 and to Moldova for its readiness to coordinate the Working Group on Science and Education in 2013-2014.
The place and venue of the next CNC meeting will be decided through diplomatic channels.
