On February 17, 2016, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Ukraine, Mr. Cornel Ionescu, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr. Altai Efendiev.
During their conversation, which took place in a friendly and open atmosphere, the Parties exchanged views and assessments on the current situation in the GUAM countries, the development of the current situation in the region, the appearance of a new initiatives and, in this relation, launching new opportunities for cooperation.
The Parties noted that, unlike other regional organisations, the GUAM format presents advantages in terms of developing cooperation both between member-states and also with their partners and neighbours.
The Ambassador emphasised the strategic importance of the region to Romania, and expressed interest in potential cooperation.
The SG informed the Ambassador about the priorities of the Presidency, in particular, regarding the development of the GUAM transport corridor, and also about other projects and initiatives.
The Parties expressed interest in maintaining contact and exchanging information.
