On 1 December 2009, in Athens, the 1st GUAM Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs – the Visegrád Group meeting was held within the 17th OSCE Ministerial Council meeting.
GUAM CMFA chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs of Georgia Mr. Grigol Vashadze was presented also by Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Elmar Mammedyarov, Vice-Prime-Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova Mr. Iurie Leanca, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Mr. Petro Poroshenko, and GUAM Secretary General Ambassador Valeri Chechelashvili. The delegation of the Visegrád Group was chaired by Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Hungary Mr. Peter Balazs.
The sides discussed the prospects of the GUAM-Visegrád Group cooperation and exchanged views on their proposals in spheres of mutual interests, including transferring the experiences of the Visegrád Countries in regional cooperation, EU/NATO integration, training of the GUAM Member States’ diplomats, and presentation of the GUAM Tourist Product.
GUAM also expressed the interest in developing cooperation within the Eastern Partnership’s Flagship initiatives on integrated border management, prevention of, preparedness for, and response to natural and man-made disasters, regional energy markets and energy efficiency, SME facility as well as the GUAM-Visegrád Countries cooperation in the field of transport.
