On October 17-18, 2013, the Secretariat of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM (Kyiv) hosted the seminar “Promoting a Green Economy in GUAM countries: Promoting renewable energy sources”, organised within the framework of GUAM-Japan cooperation with support from the Hungarian Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC) for GUAM member states.
That event took place during the course of the seminar on energy security for experts from GUAM member states, held in Japan on January 15-23, 2012. The workshop brought together representatives of relevant ministries and departments, research institutes, academies, the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, and also representatives of the Embassies of GUAM member states, the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe, and the GUAM Secretariat.
During the workshop, participants gave presentations on state policy in the field of renewable energy, prospects for developing this field in GUAM member states, and also the potential of renewable energy sources in areas such as wind, solar, biomass, hydropower, as well as their effectiveness and their use in the region of GUAM member states.
A roundtable took place after the seminar. During this event, participants summarised and exchanged views on the information provided during this event, discussed the importance of renewable energy for the GUAM member states, the further development in this field at the regional level, and the prospects for cooperation between GUAM member states in the field of renewable energy.
Participants in the event expressed their gratitude to the Japanese Party for organising and holding the workshop.
