On 11-12 November 2010, in the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, the 6th meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Illegal Migration (WGSTIP) was held under the chairmanship of the Moldovan Party with the participation of representatives of the relevant law enforcement, special, and border-control services.
WGSTIP herd the Report on its activity during 2010, agreed upon its proposals to the GUAM WGCTOC Draft Action Plan for 2011 as well as the recommendation of the candidature of the Republic of Moldova as the WGSTIP country-coordinator for the next two-year period of 2011-2012.
The Parties exchanged with information on the development of their national legislation, operative situation and measures of the GUAM member states in sphere of preventing and combating trafficking in persons and illegal migration, considered the issues of GUAM member states regional cooperation as well as their interaction within other international organizations in this sphere.
WGSTIP summed up the results of carrying out during 1-30 October 2010 joint law-enforcement operation in sphere of combating trafficking in persons and illegal migration under the nickname “Perehvat-2010” (“Interception-2010”), and exchanged information on other joint measures of the GUAM member states law enforcement agencies in this area.
WGSTIP agreed upon the composition and pro-forma for regular exchange of information among the GUAM member states as well as clarified the structure of the appropriate chapter of the GUAM Information Bulletin regarding combat against trafficking in persons and illegal migration.
The issues of further development of institutional cooperation among the GUAM member states in combating trafficking in persons and illegal migration within the framework of the GUAM VLEC/IIMS were also discussed.
The next WGSTIP meeting is planned for March-April 2011.
