June 23, 2016, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Croatia to Ukraine, Mr T.Vidoshevich, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr A. Efendiev.
During the meeting, held in a friendly and confidential atmosphere, the Secretary General informed the Ambassador about the Organization, the history of its creation, the main goals and objectives during the Chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in GUAM in 2016, and current activities in various fields. The Secretary General also noted the interest of the GUAM countries in expanding and deepening international cooperation with interested partners and international organizations.
The sides exchanged views on the situation in the GUAM region and around it, noted challenges and opportunities, stressed the importance of developing and strengthening regional cooperation and resolving protracted conflicts in the GUAM space.
Ambassador T.Vidoshevich, drawing parallels in the development of the situation in the Balkans and the space of the former USSR after the disintegration of large states, noted the progress in the region as a result of a complex negotiation process. The Ambassador also noted the long and difficult negotiation process with the EU culminating in the recent accession of Croatia to the EU. The ambassador expressed interest and readiness to provide Croatia’s experience to the GUAM countries.
The parties expressed interest in continuing contacts and exchanging information.
