April 29, 2016, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Ukraine, Mrs D. Gaf, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr A. Efendiev.
During the meeting, the Secretary General informed the Ambassador about the Organization, the priority directions of the Organization’s activities during the Chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2016, as well as the experience of international cooperation with the third countries and international organizations. The sides exchanged views on the situation in the GUAM region and around it and on the challenges facing the member countries of the Organization. In this regard, the importance that the Organization has acquired in the light of current events was highlighted to ensure cooperation, development and stability in the region.
The Secretary General stressed the importance of expanding and deepening international cooperation in addressing pressing issues facing the countries of the region. In this connection, the Secretary General stressed the important role of the United Kingdom as one of the important players in the GUAM countries. The great role of the country as one of the largest investors in the implementation of strategic energy projects of international importance was noted. Particularly was noted the principled and consistent position of the United Kingdom, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, on issues that are of fundamental importance for the GUAM member states. A. Efendiev invited also to possible interaction within the international organizations.
The parties expressed interest in continuing the dialogue and exchange of information.
