On February 26, 2016, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Lithuania to Ukraine, Mr. Marius Janukonis, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, Mr. Altai Efendiev.
During the meeting, the SG provided the Ambassador with information regarding the current situation for GUAM, and also regarding its Programme and priority areas for cooperation during the Presidency of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2016.
The Parties exchanged information and views on the situation in GUAM countries and also around the region, as well as regarding new processes and initiatives for initiating new opportunities and prospects for cooperation, involving GUAM countries and their partners.
In particular, they noted the importance of implementing the GUAM transport corridor as an alternative route for transporting goods between Europe and China.
The Ambassador noted Lithuania’s interest in developing cooperation regarding this project.
The GUAM SG expressed gratitude to Lithuania for cooperating with GUAM within the framework of the Baltic Assembly, and also for supporting GUAM member-states in developing cooperative relations with the EU.
The Ambassador noted the importance that Lithuania awarded to cooperation with GUAM countries, and also expressed interest in further cooperation.
The Parties agreed to continue regular relations and exchanging information.
