On March 18-19, 2013, as part of his working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan, Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Mr. Valeri Chechelashvili attended the International Conference “Strengthening Cooperation in Preventing Terrorism”, which was organised by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, His Excellency Ilham Aliyev.
Within the framework of Session 1 “Enhancing international cooperation in developing and undertaking measures to address conditions conductive to the spread of terrorism”, the Secretary General presented a report dedicated to GUAM activities with respect to combating terrorism. In his speech, the Secretary General informed participants about cooperation occurring with international organisations in combating terrorism and within the GUAM format (these include UNODC, CODEXTER, OSCE, SELEC). He also told them about the structure and activities of GUAM’s working bodies with respect to combating terrorism, organised crime and drug trafficking, and about the functioning of the GUAM Virtual Centre on combating terrorism, organised crime, drug trafficking and other dangerous types of crime as well.
