27-28 October 2016, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Mr A. Efendiev took part in the 35th Session of the Baltic Assembly and the 22nd Meeting of the Baltic Council that held in the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia in Riga. The Secretary General also took part in the events dedicated to the celebration of the 25th Anniversary of the Baltic Assembly.

During the meetings, the Secretary General expressed an interest and emphasized the importance of developing and strengthening all-round relations both between the Baltic and GUAM Parliamentary Assemblies and between the Baltic countries and the GUAM Member States. The issues of participation of the Baltic Assembly representatives in the upcoming session of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, which will be held in December this year in Baku, were discussed.

In the course of discussion on the report of the Minister of Transport of Latvia Mr Uldis Augulis on the development of transport infrastructure between the Baltic states, transport corridors and cross-border cooperation, the Secretary General noted the importance of developing transport communications connecting the regions of the Baltic, Black and Caspian Seas. A. Efendiev briefly informed about the functioning of the GUAM Transport Corridor and its potential role in the development of the East-West corridor connecting the countries of Europe and Asia. In this regard, he emphasized the importance of developing transport infrastructure connecting the Black and Baltic Seas, and called for strengthening cooperation in transport. The possibility of continuing the dialogue during the forthcoming international conference on transport in November this year in Kyiv was noted.
