On August 19, 2008, the press-conference on the aftermath of the Russian – Georgian conflict with the participation of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine Mr. M.Antadze and Secretary General of GUAM Mr. V.Chechelashvili took place in the GUAM Press Centre in the premises of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine for representatives of mass media and diplomatic missions.
Ambassador M.Antadze furnished information on the reasons and history of Russian-Georgian conflict and state of affairs, as a result of Russian Federation’s aggression against Georgia. Secretary General V.Chechelashvili attracted attention of the audience to the fact, that following the actions of the Russian Federation regional cooperation was undermined, energy and transport communications blocked. He appealed to the Heads of international organizations, Russia is member of, to upgrade influence on the Russian Federation and bring it back to the track of international law. Secretary General underlined that with latest actions Russian Federation destroyed BlackSeaFor, undermined CIS, restored G7, closed the prospect for WTO membership and lost the reputation and authority of mediation in the conflicts on Georgian territory.
