On 25 September 2009 in New York, the 3rd GUAM Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs – the Czech Republic meeting was held in the framework of the general debates on the 64th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.
The sides marked the results of their previous meetings that took place in Batumi on 1 July 2008 in the framework of the Third GUAM Summit and in Helsinki on 4 December 2008 within the OSCE 16th Ministerial Council Meeting as well as of the recent visit to Prague on 4 September 2009 of the Secretary General of GUAM to discuss the issues of cooperation in the GUAM – Czech Republic format.
The sides confirmed their readiness in developing practical partnership and cooperation and exchanged views on their proposals to implement joint projects in the spheres of mutual interest.
The sides reiterated the importance in developing GUAM relations with the Visegrád and other EU countries. The Czech Republic, in particular, agreed to share with the GUAM Member States its experiences in the EU integration, expressed its support in launching cooperation in the GUAM – Visegrád Group format as well as in intensifying cooperation between GUAM and the EU.
The sides exchanged views on the situation in the region within the agenda item of the 64th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations on protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development. They expressed their conviction that international community should continuously focus its efforts on the settlement of protracted conflicts in the GUAM area on the basis of sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of the GUAM Member States.
The sides decided to agree on the date and venue of the next GUAM – the Czech Republic meeting through diplomatic channels.
