8-9 September 2016, the 39th Meeting of the GUAM Council of National Coordinators (CNC) was held at the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv with the participation of representatives of the Member States and the GUAM Secretariat.

The CNC considered the issues of political interaction in the GUAM format. The presiding party informed on the progress of the UN General Assembly draft resolution «Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development», and the draft Resolution «Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM», proposed by the presiding party, was considered and agreed upon.

The CNC addressed the issue of interaction between the GUAM Permanent Representatives to international organizations and approved the Plan of Cooperation of the Permanent Representatives of the GUAM Member States to the United Nations in 2016 and the Key Issues of Cooperation of the Permanent Representatives of the GUAM Member States to the Council of Europe in 2016.

The CNC examined the issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation, including the holding of the next meeting of the Committee for Political, Legal and Interregional Cooperation Issues of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (PA), the Bureau of the GUAM PA and the next GUAM PA meeting. The CNC supported the intention of the GUAM PA to send a group of observers to the Parliamentary elections in Georgia (October 8, 2016).

The CNC discussed the preparation for the meeting of the Heads of Government of the GUAM Member States in December this year, as well as the GUAM Business Forum, timed to coincide with the meeting, in particular, after hearing the information from the Secretariat about the interdepartmental coordination meeting that held in preparation for the Business Forum.

The CNC discussed a set of issues of GUAM sectoral cooperation, in particular, in the domains of economy and trade, transport and transit, tourism, cybersecurity. In addition, the CNC considered cooperation issues with other states and international organizations.

Additionally, the CNC considered the preparation for the next meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs within the 71st session of the UN General Assembly in New York, and agreed on the draft documents for this event.

The CNC also addressed organizational and financial issues.

The date and venue of the next meeting of the Council of National Coordinators will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
