On 23-24 February 2010, the 5th meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Combating Trade-in-Persons and Illegal Migration (WGS-TIP) took place in the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv.
WGS-TIP estimated as positive in general the experiences of carrying out the GUAM joint operations (measures) on combating trade-in-persons and illegal migration under the nicknames “Interception-2007” (23-25.10.2007), “Interception-2” (12-15.05.2008), “Interception-3” (10-14.11.2008), “Interception-2009” (09-13.11.2009) and agreed to develop new approaches towards such joint operations (measures) in future on the basis of making active the mechanism of so called GUAM VLEC Interstate Expert Commissions. The appropriate recommendations were reflected in the discussion on joint operation “Interception-2010” as well as forwarded for further consideration of the Working Group on Combating Terrorism, Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking (WGCTDT).
WGS-TIP confirmed the necessity of the exchange of information related to the combat against trade-in-persons and illegal migration through the GUAM VLEC/IIMS, called for the usefulness of intensification of GUAM interaction with Europol and SECI Regional Centre for Combating Trans-border Crime, agreed to consider at its next meeting together with the representatives of national migration bodies the issues on a possible GUAM’s participation in the implementation of the EU/ICMPD joint initiative “Migration: EU expertise (MIEUX)”. WGS-TIP supported also the initiative on the exchange of information on migration issues as well as agreed to develop the structure of the relevant part of the GUAM WGCTOC Information Bulletin on combating trade-in-persons and illegal migration.
The Parties agreed to convene the next WGS-TIP meeting in Chisinau in the IV quarter 2010.
