On October 13-14, 2011, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, Ukraine hosted the 7th meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Combating Terrorism (WGSCT), which took place under Azerbaijan’s chairmanship.

The delegations informed their colleagues about the development of legislation, participation in cooperation at the bilateral and multilateral levels.

During the meeting, the themes considered include the course for the fulfilment of the GUAM Cryptographic Protection Information Project and preparation for the installation of equipment.

The delegations were informed about the participation of representatives of the GUAM member states’ law enforcement and anti-terrorist agencies in taking measures to ensure the security of the Eurovision-2012 competition in Azerbaijan and the UEFA European Football Championship in Ukraine.

The Working Sub-Group agreed to consider opportunities for GUAM’s participation in international projects dedicated to counteracting cyber-crime and cyber-terrorism, in particular, the creation of 24/7 points of contact, using mechanisms introduced by the GUAM Virtual Law Enforcement Centre.

The delegations supported the further development of cooperation in prevention and combating terrorism within the framework of other international organizations and in the context of fulfilling the Cooperation Plans, adopted by the GUAM Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers.

The outcomes of the meeting were reflected in the resultant Protocol. The next meeting of the WGSCT is scheduled to take place in April 2012 in Baku.
