On January 15-23, 2012, a Workshop on issues of energy security was held for experts of GUAM member states in Japan.
On January 16, 2012, the opening ceremony of the event took place with participation of the Special Representative responsible for GUAM relations at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Mr. T. Kozuki, along with representatives of Japan’s MFA, Ambassadors of GUAM member states in Japan, as well as experts from GUAM member states and the GUAM Secretariat. In his statement, Mr. T. Kozuki congratulated participants of this workshop and expressed hope that the experience gained during the workshop would serve as the basis for the development of new GUAM-Japan joint projects in the field of energy. Within the framework of the meeting, representatives of GUAM member states gave presentations on energy development in their respective states and expressed gratitude to their Japanese hosts for the highest level of organization of this workshop.
In the course of the workshop, participants learned about the Japanese experience in the field of energy construction, LNG, and solar energy. Participants visited the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, and such corporations as “Panasonic”, “Mitsubushi”, “JGC”, and “Chiyouda”, in addition to the Kashiwano-ha Campus Smart City in Tokyo.
Apart from that, within the scope of the workshop, representatives of the GUAM member states learned a lot upon visiting the main sightseeing sites of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
