On January 26, 2012, the GUAM Secretariat hosted a meeting between the Director of the Central and South Eastern Europe Division of the European Affairs Bureau, Mr. K. Kawazu, and Secretary General of GUAM, Mr. V. Chechelashvili. The First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine, Mr. M. Tominaga, representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and of Japan’s MFA, as well as GUAM’s Program Coordinator, Mr. S. Temirov, also took part in the meeting.

The Secretary General of GUAM expressed gratitude to the Japanese Side for their high level of organization with respect to the Workshop on Issues of Energy Security (held in Japan on January 15-23, 2012) and also expressed hope that the experience gained during the workshop would serve as a good basis for developing new projects in the field of energy.

Apart from that, the Japanese Side was informed about the decision of the Working Group on Tourism, within the framework of the GUAM-Japan joint tourist product, that a press tour for interested representatives of the Japanese mass media will be organised to GUAM member states in spring of 2012.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.
