The 7th meeting of Working Sub-Group on Combating Drug Trafficking (WGSDT), under the Azerbaijani chairmanship, was held at the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, October 21, 2010.
WGSDT took the Report on its activities in 2010, exchanged information about the development of national legislation, operative situation and other activities of the GUAM member states in combating drug trafficking and considered the issue of regional cooperation among the GUAM member states in this area, including the development of its legal basis.
WGSDT advocated the need for further intensification of cooperation, confirmed the importance of regular exchange of information, exchanged views on composition, objectives and functions of future GUAM VLEC/IIMS interstate expert commissions
WGSDT summarized the results of the GUAM member states law enforcement agencies joint operation in combating drug trafficking codenamed „Narcostop-2010“, which was held during the period of October 15 and November 15, 2010 as well as highlighted bilateral activities of the GUAM member states law enforcement agencies.
WGSDT clarified the structure of the thematic section of the “GUAM Information Bulletin“ in sphere of the fight against drug trafficking, discussed prospects of cooperation between GUAM and other interested states and international organizations, including the U.S., Turkey, CARICC (Central Asian Regional Information and Coordination Centre on fight against illicit traffic in narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and precursors), the SECI (South-East European Cooperative Initiative) Regional Center for Combating Transborder Crimes, and UNODC (UN Office on Drugs and Crime).
WGSDT agreed upon the proposals for the draft WGCTOC Plan of Organizational and Practical Measures for 2011 as well as the candidacy of the Republic of Azerbaijan as the country-coordinator of the WGSDT for the period of 2011-2012.
