On July 8, 2009 in Kyiv, GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili had a meeting with Mr. Gregory E. Ducot, the Deputy Assistant Director of US Department of Justice International Criminal Investigative Training Assistance Program (ICITAP).

The Sides discussed on-going and new technical assistance projects within the Framework US-GUAM Program in areas of combating drug trafficking, trade in persons, money laundering, terrorism and modernizing the GUAM VLEC Interstate Information Management System. They exchanged also views on the activities of the GUAM Trade and Transportation Facilitation Project as well as on a future US technical assistance in implementing appropriate projects on improving the GUAM Border Guard Authorities capabilities in securing GUAM Transport Corridor. GUAM Secretary General appraised continuous US support of GUAM, which, according to the Deputy Assistant Director of DOJ/ICITAP, played an important role in the region. Mr. G.Ducot expressed also the readiness of DOJ/ICITAP in assisting new GUAM projects. The officials of the GUAM Secretariat and the DOJ/ICITAP Project Office in Kyiv participated in the meeting.
