1-2 December 2016, Kyiv hosted the Second International Trade and Industry Conference «Free Trade Zones: Opportunities and Challenges for Ukraine and Partners», organized by the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The event was attended by the Program Coordinator of the Secretariat of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM S. Tamirov and the Head of the Department of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan I. Babayev, the Senior Counsellor of the Embassy of Georgia to Ukraine A. Kipiani and the Counsellor of the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine I. Panurko, as well as representatives of ASMAP Ukraine, Ukrferry and business representatives interested in cooperation in the GUAM format.

Within the panel discussion «GUAM Cooperation Format: Priority Areas», the issues on the functioning of the GUAM free trade area, prospects for the development of the GUAM transport corridor were discussed. Representatives of the GUAM Member States, who took part in the conference, presented information on new initiatives and projects aimed at the development of the GUAM transport corridor and the full functioning of the GUAM free trade area.

During the discussion, the issues that hinder the development of the GUAM free trade area and the functioning of the GUAM transport corridor were discussed, and proposals were made to eliminate them.
