On July 22-23, 2011, the GUAM Secretary General, Ambassador Valeri Chechelashvili, paid working visit to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the course of the working visit, the GUAM Secretary General met with the Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr.E.Mammadyarov, as well as a number of officials, as follows: Mr.A.Azimov, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Azerbaijan National Coordinator within GUAM; Mr.K.Haydarov, Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Mr. A.Qarayev, Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Mr. S.Sharifov, Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. M.Panahov, Deputy Minister of transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan; and Mr. A.Bashirov, Head of the Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Company.
During the visit, amendments to the Chairmanship Programm were considered, as well as the implementation of GUAM projects and programms of cooperation within the GUAM and GUAM+ formats in the fields of energy, combating organised crime, money laundering, trade, transport, tourism, cultural cooperation, as well as the GUAM Calendar of events until the end of 2011.
The Sides also exchanged views on the possible priorities during the Republic of Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the GUAM Organization.
