On May 16-17, 2012, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr. V. Chechelashvili, paid a working visit to Vienna.

On May 16, 2012, the Secretary General met with the students attending the Vienna Diplomatic Academy. The Secretary General provided information to them about the history of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM and its goals and objectives, in addition to the Organization’s place within the overall international relations system. The Secretary General particularly focused on the programs and projects currently being carried out within the scope of the “GUAM” and “GUAM+” formats. The meeting was concluded by Q and A session and lasted for more than 2 hours.

On May 17, 2012, the Secretary General of GUAM met with the Secretary General of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, Ambassador Mr. Lamberto Zannier. During the meeting, the Sides underlined the importance of the dialog between the two organizations. The Sides also shared their views in the context of developing particular programs geared towards OSCE-GUAM partnership.

On May 17, 2012, the Secretary General addressed the OSCE Permanent Council. In his speech, the Secretary General outlined the Organization’s current priorities under the Presidency of the Republic of Azerbaijan, its main goals and objectives, the process of generating and implementing GUAM projects and cooperation programs, and GUAM’s main project areas – developing a free trade zone, fighting organised crime, promoting joint tourism initiatives, as well as cooperation in the transport and energy sectors.
