On March 22-30, 2015, the Workshop on Water management took place in Japan. The Japanese Government organised this event for experts from GUAM member states within the framework of GUAM-Japan cooperation.

Representatives of ministries and agencies from GUAM member states, as well as representatives of the GUAM Secretariat, participated in the workshop. During the event, participants from GUAM member states gave presentations on the development and potential of water resources in their respective member states, and also had the opportunity to learn about Japan’s policy in the sphere of water resources.

During the workshop, participants paid a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism. Participants got acquainted with the operations of the Misono Purification Plant in Itabashi, the Water Supply Operation Centre at Bunkyo, and the Kasai Water Reclamation Centre. Participants also learned about the progress regarding work being done to reconstruct the Musashi channel and also visited the Ton Dam.

Within the scope of the workshop, representatives of the GUAM member states visited the main sightseeing attractions of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.

Representatives of participating member states agreed to hold a meeting at the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv with the purpose to summarising the workshop, and also in order to elaboration on joint proposals regarding water resource management with an eye to their realisation within the GUAM-Japan cooperation format.
