On December 9-10, 2013, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, Ukraine hosted the 12th meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Illegal Migration (WGS-TIP), which involved US representatives.
Participating delegations exchanged information about national legislation, the operational situation, and measures that are being taken in GUAM member-states.
The Working Sub-Group examined issues pertaining to a workshop on criminal analysis and risks analysis in human trafficking and illegal migration, which will be held in Ukraine.
The delegations exchanged views on the course of preparing analytical summaries on the situation regarding crime and observable tendencies in GUAM member-states in 2013.
The participants discussed the possibilities and reaffirmed common interest in the use of the GUAM Virtual Law Enforcement Center by those state agencies that are involved in combating human trafficking and illegal migration.
The delegations shared information about the national legislation regulating control mechanisms on children’s adoption by foreign citizens and counteracting crime in this area. They also examined the provisions of national legislation regulating the transplantation of and trade in human organ trades.
The Working Sub-Group also considered issues pertaining to the development of cooperation with other international and regional organisations and states.
The outcomes of the meeting were reflected in the resultant Protocol. The next meeting of the WGS-TIP is scheduled to take place in the beginning of 2014.
