May 31 – June 1, 2018, the first Meeting of the temporary Working Subgroup on Science and Innovation took place in the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv in which representatives of the relevant Departments, Embassies of the GUAM Member States and the GUAM Secretariat participated.
During the meeting, the Sides exchanged information on the development of science and innovation in the GUAM Member States and noted the need to unite efforts to harmonize the institutional infrastructure of national innovation systems, as well as to create a unified format of innovation development institutions to support the GUAM Member States’ cooperation.
Delegations heard the presentation of the Ukrainian Side on the pilot cooperation projects in such areas as an energy of the future, an organic food, an international transit and an innovation support infrastructure. In addition, the National Science-Technological Association of Ukraine proposed the creation of the International Center for Innovative Development and Technology Transfer with the aim of forming the international infrastructure for the implementation of projects in science and innovation at the level of GUAM Member States.
Participants also exchanged views on the expediency of involving international organizations and the GUAM partners, primarily Japan and the United States, in the preparation and implementation of the GUAM Member States’ cooperation projects and asked the Secretariat to contribute to this issue.
