On September 16-17, 2015, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv hosted the 35th Meeting of the GUAM Council of National Coordinators, which involved the following officials: Mr T. Musayev, Head of Department on Regional Security of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Mr. D. Jalagania, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, GUAM National Coordinator from Georgia; Mr. A. Nistrean, Director of the Regional Cooperation Directorate of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of the Republic of Moldova; Mr. A. Kononenko, Ambassador at large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, who chaired the meeting; and the Secretary General of GUAM, Mr. V. Chechelashvili.
The CNC considered issues related to advancing the UN GA’s Draft Resolution “Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development”.
The CNC expressed its satisfaction with the results of the Parliamentary meeting “Security in Europe: current situation and lessons for policy makers”, which took place in Kyiv on June 25-26, 2015 and involved representatives of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly, the Baltic Assembly, the Nordic Council, the Benilux Parliament, and also the countries of the Vysegrad Group. The CNC supported the idea of holding such conferences on a regular basis.
The CNC welcomed the opportunity to hold the meeting of the GUAM PA’s Committee on Political, Legal Affairs and Interregional Cooperation (June 26, 2015 with Ukraine as country-coordinator), which was the first time this has happened in the history of the GUAM PA. The CNC also supported countries-coordinators’ intention to hold meetings of the Committee on Science, Culture, Education and Ecology (with Georgia as country-coordinator), the Committee on Economic and Commercial Affairs of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly (with the Republic of Azerbaijan as country-coordinator), and the Committee on Regional Security (with the Republic of Moldova as country-coordinator) before the next meeting of the GUAM PA (in December 2015). This meeting will promote the implementation of projects and programs involving quadripartite cooperation and also create the conditions necessary to realise the capacity of GUAM inter-parliamentary cooperation.
The CNC discussed issues related to GUAM sectoral cooperation, inter alia in the field of economy and trade, transport, and combating crime.
The CNC discussed issues related to cooperation between GUAM and other countries and international organisations, and also the conditions for cooperation between GUAM member-states within international organisations, and also instructed Permanent Representatives to activate their work within the scope of the elaborated cooperation plans.
The CNC prepared documents for the regular CMFA meeting within the framework of the UN GA.
The venue and date of the next CNC meeting will be agreed upon through diplomatic channels.
