1-2 December 2016, the 40th Meeting of the GUAM Council of National Coordinators (CNC) was held at the GUAM Secretariat with the participation of representatives of the GUAM Member States and the GUAM Secretariat.
This event was the last meeting of the national coordinators during the chairmanship of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Organization, at which the results of the GUAM activities in 2016 were summed up.
At the meeting, the Council of National Coordinators considered the issues of political interaction in the GUAM format. In particular, the CNC welcomed the adoption of the Resolution «Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM». The CNC also heard a briefing by the Chairmanship about the current status of progress on the draft UN General Assembly Resolution «Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development». The CNC instructed the diplomatic missions of the GUAM Member States to continue efforts to mobilize support for this draft Resolution.
The CNC was briefed by the Chairmanship on the preparations for regular meetings of the Committees of the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of GUAM, the Bureau of the GUAM PA and the next meeting of the GUAM PA (December 14-15, Baku).
The Council of National Coordinators was also informed by the Secretary General on the preparations for the meeting of the heads of government of the GUAM Member States and the Business Forum, which were postponed to early 2017. In this regard, the CNC noted the need to accelerate domestic procedures for agreeing on documents that are planned to be adopted at the meeting.
In addition, the CNC discussed a set of issues of the GUAM sectoral cooperation. The proposals of the GUAM Member States on the candidacies of the coordinating countries of the sectoral working groups for the period 2017-2018 were discussed, as well as the issues of cooperation with other states and international organizations.
At the CNC meeting, the documents of the upcoming CMFA meeting were also agreed, and information on organizational and financial issues was heard.
The date and venue of the next meeting of the Council of National Coordinators will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
