On April 11, 2016, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India in Ukraine, Mr MK Bkharti, received the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Mr A. Efendiev.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged information on the situation in the GUAM region and around it, resulting from both an aggravation in bilateral relations between the different countries, and new regional initiatives, including in trade and economic relations in the integration processes of the new countries.

It was noted that the GUAM region in this context is becoming increasingly attractive as an alternative transport and transit corridor connecting Europe with Asia. It was also noted that the connection of Iran to the transport infrastructure of the GUAM opens new opportunities for India. In this regard, attention was drawn to the fact that India is currently investing in the development and modernization of the seaport in Iran with access to the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. The use of Iran as a transit territory and GUAM transport corridor, thus, opens up new opportunities for India to enter GUAM markets and further to Europe.

The Ambassador wished the Secretary General success in meeting the goals and objectives set for the Organization. The parties agreed to continue contact and exchange of information.
