3 November 2016, the Meeting between the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Mr. Altai Efendiev and the Secretary General of TRACECA Mr. Mircea Ciopraga took place at the TRACECA headquarters, in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the Parties exchanged information on projects and initiatives implemented in transport. It was noted that the changes taking place in the region of the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea create favourable opportunities for the practical implementation of the East-West Transport Corridor. In this regard, the need was emphasized to coordinate efforts for developing the transport infrastructure connecting the countries of Asia and Europe, as well as for harmonizing and unifying the legislative and regulatory environment and tariff policy.
The Parties confirmed their mutual interest in developing cooperation between the organizations. In particular, the Parties agreed to consider the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Cooperation between the TRACECA Secretariat and the GUAM Secretariat. The GUAM Secretary General invited the TRACECA Secretary General to the GUAM Business Forum, where the main attention will be paid to the transport corridor and the development of regional cooperation in its implementation.
