STATEMENT
of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova on the evolution of the situation in Ukraine
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova expresses its deep concern regarding the events in Ukraine, in particular about the situation in the Crimean peninsula and the military decisions adopted by the authorities of the Russian Federation.
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova stands in solidarity with the Parliament of Ukraine in its effort to ensure the stability and the European future of Ukraine, which is a neighbor, a partner and a friend of the Republic of Moldova.
We note that the major danger of the events in Ukraine, especially the unfolding of events in Crimea, consists in the undermining of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, which may lead to serious repercussions for the whole region.
In this context, the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova underlines the importance of respecting the principles of the international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine and the agreements that guarantee them.
We call on the Organization of United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, the European Union and the Commonwealth of Independent States to use all the tools of the international law and all the mediation mechanisms, in order to avoid the conflict escalation and to ensure peace and stability in Ukraine and the entire region.
The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova expresses its support for the Ukrainian people and its trust that only the whole Ukrainian people has the right and will decide on the future of Ukraine through free and democratic mechanisms.
