On April 26, 2018, at the initiative of the GUAM Chairman Party, in particular Mr Marian Lupu, the Chairperson of the National Delegation of the Republic of Moldova to the Council of Europe, a consultation working meeting of representatives of GUAM Member States held within the Spring Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. The members of national delegations to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, representatives of diplomatic missions of the GUAM Member States, as well as Mr A. Efendiev, GUAM Secretary General, were attended.
The meeting was dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the GUAM, as well as issues of interaction of national delegations within the Council of Europe. The participants of the meeting thanked the Chairman for the excellent organization and noted the need for the close interparliamentary cooperation emphasizing the importance of this initiative in the context of further strengthening ties in this field. It was also mentioned the need to intensify cooperation within the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly on the eve of the Meeting of the Speakers of the GUAM Member States’ Parliaments. The Parties stressed the importance of this event and agreed to continue consultations on these and other mutual interest issues.
The Secretary General visited also the exhibition «Woven Poems: Traditional Carpets and Costumes of the Republic of Moldova» organized by Mr Roland Ries, Mayor of Strasbourg; Ms Monica Babuc, Minister of Education, Culture and Research of the Republic of Moldova, and Ms Corina Caluguera, Ambassador, Permanent Representative of the Republic Moldova to the Council of Europe. In addition, a short meeting of the Secretary General with Mr Takamasa Sato, Ambassador, Permanent Observer of Japan to the Council of Europe, held.
