On March 12-13, 2013, the Secretary General of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM, Mr. Valeri Chechelashvili, paid a working visit to the United States of America.

On March 12, the Secretary General held meetings with the following officials: Mr. Daniel A. Russel, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State; Mr. Daniel Rosenblum, Coordinator of US Assistance to Europe and Eurasian Countries; Mr. Brian Nichols, Principal Deputy Assistant for the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs; and Mr. George Kent, Director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs in Europe-Asia.

The Parties exchanged views on ongoing cooperation within the GUAM –USA format and the implementation of joint programmes and projects. They emphasised their mutual interest in continuing and increasing cooperation, including exchanging the experience accumulated during the realisation of the GUAM-USA Framework Programme.

The Secretary General informed his counterparts about the activities of GUAM working bodies and about the process of implementing new projects, which will be considered by the Parties and, in the case of mutual interest, will be realised within the GUAM-USA format.

The Parties agreed to continue consultations and, in particular, stressed the importance of GUAM-USA dialogue during the next Meetings of the GUAM’s Council of Foreign Affairs Ministers.

The Secretary General was also invited to take part in a working lunch.

At the event, which was held at the Georgian Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Secretary General met with representatives of the embassies of GUAM member states.
