On December 15-16, 2011, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, Ukraine hosted the 14th meeting of the Working Group on Combating Terrorism, Organised Crime and Drug Trafficking (WGCTOC).
The Working Group reviewed the report on its activities in 2011 and agreed on the Plan Regarding Organisational and Practical Measures for 2012.
The Working Group supported the efforts being made be GUAM working bodies with respect to implementing the provisions of the Plan of Action for Facilitating Sectoral Cooperation, adopted by the GUAM Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs (in Warsaw, September 29, 2011), which concerns the challenges of combating crime, terrorism, and guaranteeing the safety of the GUAM transport corridor.
The Working Group positively noted the activation of GUAM cooperation in the field of law enforcement and counter-terrorism as a whole, the outcomes of the working sub-group’s initiatives aimed at setting and achieving specific tasks, the development of international projects and the further development of cooperation with other states and international organisations.
The Working Group confirmed agreements on preparation of a common Information Bulletin for 2011 on combating crime in the GUAM member states.
A number of other practical issues related to cooperation were considered and the relevant instructions for the various parties were also approved.
The outcomes of the meeting were reflected in the resultant Protocol. The next meeting of the WGCTOC is scheduled to take place in the first half of 2012.
