22 September 2016, in New York, the 27th meeting of the Council of Ministers for Foreign Affairs of GUAM (CFMA) was held on the sidelines of the 71st session of the UN General Assembly, which was attended by Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the GUAM Member States and the GUAM Secretary General.
At the meeting, the CFMA heard the report of the Secretary General on the current GUAM activities. Heads of the delegations spoke on the main agenda issues.
The CFMA considered the issues of political interaction within the GUAM, in particular, on the promotion of the draft UN General Assembly Resolution «Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development» and the submission of the draft Resolution «Cooperation between the United Nations and the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM» to the UN General Assembly for its consideration. An agreement was reached on strengthening coordination of the activities of the missions of the GUAM Member States to the UN and other international organizations.
The CFMA examined the issues of intersectoral cooperation of the Organization. The CFMA welcomed the initiative of the Ukrainian Part to hold a meeting of the Prime Ministers of the GUAM Member States, expressing the hope that this event will give a proper impetus to the development of the Organization and further strengthening of the economic component of cooperation within the GUAM.
The CFMA discussed the issues of expanding cooperation with partner countries and other international organizations.
The CFMA considered some organizational issues to enhance the role and international authority of the GUAM and gave the Secretariat appropriate instructions.
Following the discussion, a Joint Communiqué of the CFMA of GUAM was adopted.
The date and venue of the next CFMA meeting will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
