12 December 2019, the Meeting with the President of Ukraine was held within the summit of the Heads of Government of the GUAM Member States in Kyiv.
The meeting was attended by Mr O. Goncharuk, Prime Minister of Ukraine; Mr G. Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia; Mr I. Chicu, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova; Mr A. Akhmedov, Vice-Prime Minister of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Mr A. Efendiev, GUAM Secretary General.
The President of Ukraine praised the intensification of cooperation between Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova within the GUAM and holding of an annual meeting at the level of heads of government.
“Ukraine, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova are connected not only by a common history but also by a common vision of the development of our future. We are united by the aspiration for security and stability in the region, economic development, investment growth, infrastructure development and cultural exchange between our people,” Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during the meeting.
The GUAM Secretary General briefly informed about the Organization, priorities and objectives of cooperation, as well as the implementation of two flagship initiatives within the GUAM – the establishment of the free trade area, based on the respective Agreement, in force since 2006; the development of the GUAM Transport Corridor, based on the Concept adopted by GUAM ministers of transport in 2013. These two flagship initiatives are in the focus of the annual meetings of the Heads of Government of the GUAM Member States.
The parties discussed the joint economic and infrastructure projects, as well as stressed the need to develop promising transport routes, in particular for multimodal transportation.
