On December 13-14, 2011, the GUAM Secretariat in Kyiv, Ukraine hosted the 8th meeting of the Working Sub-Group on Combating Trafficking in Persons and Illegal Migration (WGS-TIP), which was held under the chairmanship of Moldova.
The Working Sub-Group considered the outcomes of conducting the “Perekhvat- 2011” (Interception-2011) joint measures. The participating delegations exchanged information about the operational situation and the measures being taken, as well as the development of cooperation at the bilateral and regional level.
The Working Sub-Group agreed to make joint efforts to solve problematic issues in relation to a number of states concerning the challenge of combating trafficking in persons and protecting the rights of victims.
The Working Sub-Group positively noted the establishment of relations between GUAM and the Southeast European Law Enforcement Centre (SELEC) and decided in favour of conducting joint measures.
The outcomes of the meeting were reflected in the resultant Protocol. The next meeting of the WGS-TIP is scheduled to take place in April 2012.
