Heads of Delegations of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM Member States upon the initiative of Ukraine and under the Chairmanship of the Republic of Moldova held a working meeting on April 28, 2014 in Budapest on the sidelines of “Visegrad
Group + Eastern Partnership” meeting.
The Parties discussed the current situation in the GUAM area and reiterated the consistent position of GUAM Member States regarding the settlement of conflicts in the GUAM area on the basis of sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders of GUAM Member States, as outlined in the “Joint Declaration of the Heads of State of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM on the issue of conflict settlement,” May 23, 2006.
The Parties welcomed agreements reached at Geneva talks between the United States, the EU, Ukraine and Russian Federation, on April 17, 2014 amd expressed their support for full implementation of the provisions of Geneva Statement on Ukraine.
The Parties took note of the invitation by the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov to the members of the GUAM Parliamentary Assembly to observe the presidential elections in Ukraine on 25 May 2014 and encouraged parliamentarians from Azerbaijan, Georgia and Moldova to join international observer team.
The time and venue of next GUAM Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs Meeting will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
