The Group of Observers of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development – GUAM consisted of 6 members, namely two members of the Milli Mejlis of Republic of Azerbaijan, two members of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada, and two members of the Azerbaijan Central Election Commission, was invited to the extraordinary Presidential Elections in Georgia on January 5, 2008. The Group was headed by the member of the Milli Mejlis, chairman of the parliamentary committee Mr. Elton Mamedov.
The GUAM Group of observers, based on results of observation of more than 10 polling stations, decided to make the following statement: “The extraordinary Presidential Elections in Georgia were conducted in accordance with the international norms, the Unified Election Code and rules and procedures elaborated by the Central Election Commission of Georgia. In regard to the organization of the elections, as well as the activity of the commissions of the polling stations the GUAM Group of Observers has no substantial remarks or complaints”.
